the abyss means...
My parents live in a nice part of Brighton. I don't deny it.
The street is quiet and respectable.
Once a year they have a neighbourhood-watch barbeque.
As I said, it is a Respectable Area.
Given that, imagine my surprise when I got home last night and saw what I saw...
I arrived in the street at about 4am, bone tired and ready for bed (after dealing with crises in Hove). I started to walk towards the house, when I realised something was out of place.
Very out of place.
There was a sofa on the pavement outside my next-door neighbours house (the other side from the orgy house). With two people curled up on it, wrapped up in blankets.
It was quite a nice sofa.
I decided to go up and say hi.
As I did so, I noticed a third person lying on the ground. He was shaking and incoherent and wrapped up in many layers of blankets.
I spoke with them.
They turned out to be students who have just rented the house next door (which is a first for this street). Their friend had decided he was going to sleep there. On the pavement. They tried to convince me that he must have had his drink spiked - I decided not to point out the flaw in that argument - and that whenever they tried to move him he was so loud they were worried about disturbing the neighbours.
So they had moved a sofa out and were sitting and watching over him for the night.
This neighbourhood is starting to become interesting. What will the neighbours think?
The curtains are twitching.
