the abyss means...

On the train back to Brighton on Friday night I realised something.

I have a recurring image in my dreams of a specific patch of woodland. Sometimes I am going there to get through to somewhere else. Sometimes I am going there to play. Sometimes to meet people. Sometimes I am trying to leave.

It never occurred to me before. It was just a setting.

I had never connected it as a repeating image, nor consciously focussed on it.

I can pinpoint the exact spot in Brighton where the woodland would be. If it existed. The train passes by it.

On Friday, for half a second, I felt it. I remembered it.

I have never been there. It does not exist.

It has left me with a terrible sense of 'this means something, this is important.'

I miss the trees.
