the abyss means...
Today's nasty heatwave left me hot and bothered.
I know now that catching a train which passes through London in the middle of London's hottest day ever (so far) is a very bad plan.
Especially since there was no ventilation or air conditioning in my carriage...
I had one thing that let me pass the time as we were diverted and delayed.
My mobile phone has Battleships.
I spent hours wanting to yell. However, unlike everyone else, all I wanted to yell was "You sunk my battleship!"
I have now found an online game of battleships which has me confused.
I am confused not just because you get hi-scores (mine is 4540 (which is a terrible score)), but you can place the ships in adjacent squares. How does that work?
Ships can't touch in real life without possibly damaging each other. They don't get to do a giant conga across the board!
Won't be trying to play that again.
I prefer non-scoring games anyway. Like Othello.
(OK, you can score for Othello, but really such games are win/lose and nothing else...)
I want the big bangs of a thunderstorm, and I want it now!

I'm terribly sorry that you seem to have gotten our weather this summer, but frightfully happy that we seem to have gotten yours. This is the first summer in memory that I haven't suffered near heat stroke and leaked buckets every time I stepped out of the central air.
Hang in there- it will end.
