the abyss means...

Instructions for making pretty, environmentally awful, flames:

1) Take some weed-killer. Some very strong, crystallised weed-killer.

2) Mix it with icing sugar.

3) Wrap mix in paper.

4) Place on heavily heat resistant surface.

5) Light with a long taper-like thing, or else a lighter.

6) Run for cover.

7) Look at the pretty flames, and clouds of billious, noxious, smoke that you just made.

8) Be glad you remembered to do it outside.

9) Realise you have just watched something so bright that the glare stays in your eyes for hours.

10) Repeat until unable to breathe and then never repeat.

11) Look fondly back on your teenage years and think: 'I made that.'
