the abyss means...
Had an interesting morning promoting BPEC today. I ended up at the Hands Off Iraq morning (which I think was being organised by SaFP). We managed to generate some interest, which was nice.
I felt a bit out of place though. I was surrounded by people representing different labour groups, peace groups and socialist groups.
There were three different socialist worker groups represented in the room I was in (plenty more elsewhere), and all with similar names. Socialist Workers for Peace. Working Socialists Against War etc. I kept having people's front of Judea moments.
It wasn't just my lack of knowledge about the various groups that made me feel left out. It was also the fact that I had to admit I had no idea who my local MP was (turns out it is David Lepper, which I really should have known...).
I'm just not political.
But, my morning was crowned when I found out that I had no idea what lobbying was. I had always presumed it was just a form of protesting. I never realised that going to lobby someone at parliament actually involves a lobby...
My bad.
