Unsolicited Mail

How do you write to someone you think you may have worked with once, but haven't seen in about three years, who you have just found* has a weblog, without either a) sounding like a psycho, b) sounding like spam?

I hate people that send mails like this: "Hi. I read your website. I think I know you. Do you know me?" I don't want to become one of them.

I cannot think how to avoid it though.

Facts I remember:
He lived round here, and sometimes played cricket.
He once put a photo onto his CV which made him look both evil and naked.
He is not the folk singer of the same name.

Problem:
It may not be him (especially since this is not him...) and the above is enough detail to sound very odd indeed in an unsolicited email.

Phrasing, people, phrasing. Unfortunately, it never was my skill.
